The 31st of August marked our nation’s 50th year of independence, and freedom from British rule.
Bringing “freedom” a little closer to home: I recently attended a talk about financial freedom, and the freedom to do whatever you wanted with your time (if it is even possible!). To add to that, an article I read about TIME = MONEY.
This really got me thinking, because I personally found it so difficult to balance the whole work, life, time and money conundrum. Inevitably for many of us, financial freedom becomes the focus of our lives. (And that seemingly harmless ambition can really mess things up if we’re not careful!)
Then I remembered the things that really mattered to me, and the fact that my life today is better than that of many people in less fortunate parts of the world. This may sound like a Petronas ad, but it’s true. When we step back, reflect and refocus, we remember the things that really matter to us.
Now, that’s real Merdeka!
Happy 50th Merdeka to all of you.
Fanatically yours,

Eric Cheong
